6 Ways This Jewish Day School Promotes Itself Using Video

The JDS of the Lehigh Valley has been using our video to market to prospective students (and, more importantly, their parents). A rabbi of a nearby community saw the video on Facebook and called the school with a bunch of new prospective students. It also helped the school raise a record amount of funds this year at the gala, with close to a quarter of a million dollars raised at the event alone, at which they showed the video. Here’s the video: >>> Click to watch. Of course, the funds Continue Reading...

The Trials & Triumphs of a Frum Victim of Domestic Violence

You may have seen this video already – it’s already been shared close to 3,000 times on social media. OHEL Family Services, one of my favorite clients with whom I’ve done many projects, approached me a few months ago asking for a concept.  They wanted to create a film – together with Charlie Harary – against domestic violence, and the impact that OHEL Family has in helping people in those situations. I think it was one of the most touching – and most difficult – projects that I have worked Continue Reading...

Crazy New Fundraising Idea For Non Profits

In this post I want to show you how creative you can get as an organization or fundraiser in order to not only say “thank you” in a special way, but also to pull in even more donors and make them want to become a part of your message and family. OHEL’s event is a prime example of innovative fundraising. Many of our clients try to do the next big thing in fundraising. I’ve learned by working with nonprofit clients that fundraising is a major stress; without it they can’t fulfill Continue Reading...

Yeshiva University $400 million Capital Campaign

Many universities give scholarships to their students, and this is a tremendous undertaking on behalf of the administration, the marketing, and the fundraising committees. Often the fundraising efforts happen in one-on-one environments with big donors. In this post I want to walk you through the $400 mil. capital campaign for Yeshiva University that I made videos for.  I want to discuss why we created those videos and what purpose they serve. We don’t want to make just “nice” films; our utmost goal here at Hoffman Productions is to achieve incredible Continue Reading...

Testimonial: Rabbi Steven Weil

Just want to take a moment and thank Rabbi Steven Weil, head of the Orthodox Union, for this positively GLOWING video for us. A few years ago, we made a video for the OU highlighting what they actually do with the funds they raise through their OU hechsher. It’s pretty incredible how much they are involved in every aspect of Jewish life. Apparently they’ve been using this video for years to show at conferences, awards dinners, galas, and the like. This one video is still very relevant for them. I’m Continue Reading...

The Most Romantic Wedding Proposal That’ll Make You Cry

This was really a new experience for us. Shalom Workshop is a workshop for married and to-be-married couples on how to communicate so that peace reigns in the home.  They reached out to us and asked us if we could make a film that would put them on the map and get them even more public recognition. With a film campaign that wanted to remind people how awesome it felt when they first met and how much it would be worth it to preserve this feeling or even get it Continue Reading...

How To Create A Video Ad From Start To Finish

I love making book trailers. This was our first book, the MARA DYER BOOK AD. (It’s a bit graphic, so don’t watch it if you are sensitive.) The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer is a supersuccessful book published by Simon & Schuster. We produced this new trailer for an Amazon book called The Gilboa Iris.  The reason I love book ads is because they’re all about telling stories, literally. Today I want to walk you through the process of how a film is made, what pitfalls to pay attention to, and how Continue Reading...

Your Video Investment: Commercial Ad or Promo?

When a client calls me for a new video project, the first question that comes up is, “What kind of video should we produce to achieve the client’s goal?” Most video producers create their videos according to what “feels right” or “looks good.” Of course it should feel right and look good. But beyond that your videos need a strategy behind them. You don’t want the video to just feel good; you want it to actually help achieve your goal, whether it’s selling a product or a service, to inform, Continue Reading...

Morasha Friends: Video & Script

One of the best things about meeting new clients and going new places is the people you meet. What struck me about the summer camp experience was how the alumni – decades after their years as campers at Morasha – still count Morasha friends as the majority of their inner circles. The amount of time kids spend at summer camp (including sleeping) amounts to more than the school time in a full school year. You bunk, sweat, and have incredible adventures with the same people year after year (with some Continue Reading...

The Jewish Future

We’ve just been notified by Jeremy Joszef, the director at Camp Morasha, that as of mid-October, they already have 500 campers signed up for the coming year. This is an incredible amount. These are “early decision” numbers. Last year the camp held 700 campers total. Because 2013 was their 50th jubilee, we were there for the summer filming 10 commercials. Jeremy has been releasing them one at a time every few weeks or so. We already posted our Morasha champs commercial here. Here is our next release, about Torah at Continue Reading...

New Video & Secrets Of Onslaught Marketing

Is Video Production Really That Expensive? Ok, it’s out today. Today Camp Morasha is launching the first commercial ad for their summer camp that we produced over the summer. This project was quite unique because I’m not aware of another Jewish non-profit that takes advertising as seriously as Camp Morasha does. And their success proves that it’s really worth it to invest into advertising and video and media production on the highest level. They grew over 60% in two years from 450 campers to over 700 this summer. “But Shmuel, Continue Reading...

How To Create Ideas That Sell

As you might know by now, I’m with my wife and my kids here in Northeastern Pennsylvania to shoot a bunch of commercials for the Jewish summer camp Morasha. Its been a great experience. We basically have six weeks to shoot the footage to make it happen. It sounds like a lot of time, but given the amount of setups and coordination involved, it’s a herculean effort. We basically came up with 10 different concepts for commercials; each of the films addresses a different aspect or detail about Camp Continue Reading...

Summer Camp Advertising Onslaught or How To Market an Impossible Thing

Disclaimer: I know I have a bunch of English spelling and grammar mistakes in my posts. English is not my first language 🙁. But I want to push out the content for you. Can you help me out? If you detect any mistake, I would appreciate it if you’d let me know. I’ll immediately update the text and mention your name with a big “Thank You.” That can be a great promotion for your own website. I’ll include it. Hands down 🙂  We are super excited. We were hired by the amazing Continue Reading...

The (Jimi) Houston Experience

Sorry for the Jimi reference; my wife couldnt resist. Maybe one day she’ll explain to me what she’s referring to. If we’re connected on Facebook, you know I’ve had a whirlwind month. I came back from Germany, arrived in Newark, had a client meeting that afternoon on Long Island, then drove three hours home. Next day, I had two filming days in Brooklyn and Lakewood, then met my wife in Newark to fly to Houston for the weekend, and when we came back I didn’t come home but went straight Continue Reading...

WE WON OUR 1ST FILM FESTIVAL.

I’m totally flooded with emotions. I just got out of the Pesach holiday vacation and my wife informs me that we won our first festival. Its the International Film Festival in Houston Texas. We got the Remi Award. And this is double-puzzling because this has been the first festival that our exec producer Harry Moskoff submitted the film to.  I still don’t believe it because, you know, most first films are terrible. I have seen a bunch of my favorite directors’ first films, and they’re just not good. So, I’m Continue Reading...

A TRULY CRAZY POST ABOUT HOW TO INCREASE SALES BY GIVING YOUR MONEY AWAY.

Hi. Last time, I admitted my biggest failure and you might have read it. If not, here is that post. Today, I want to do maybe my craziest post. What is it about? It’s about giving your hard earned money away in order to increase sales and business. If this sounds familiar skip this post altogether. If you think I’m nuts please read on. Tzeddaka=Charity, THE Jewish Trade Its a big thing. Charity is maybe the number one mitzvah in Judaism. Even an evil person can rectify himself by giving Continue Reading...

WHO ARE THE PEOPLE WHO HELP THE ONE IN NEED?

You know, there are so many people in this world who help people who need help, like disabled, old, sick and poor people just to mention a few. Often these selfless people’s voices don’t get heard. Or worse they often are taken for granted by us and by society. OHEL is a huge provider of services for people in need. And I’m so proud that we came up together with Derek Saker, the amazing marketing director at OHEL, with the concept to pay tribute to the work of the OHEL Continue Reading...

WHAT DOES GOOGLE GLASS MEAN FOR VIDEO AND FILM PRODUCERS?

Wow, we really live in the most exciting times. It seems like there’s an explosion of what we are able to do with technology. Every month dozens of new announcements are made about new technology. Like this one here where you can use your “force” like Luke Skywalker. Have a look at this video: When I heard about the Google Glass project over a year ago I thought it was one of those phony news items whose purpose was just to draw attention. It didn’t seem to me a viable Continue Reading...
