This OU video was a lot of fun to make.  It is Shmuel’s debut as a steadicam operator.  I was so impressed with how quickly he picked up what is known to be quite a difficult and physically challenging task.  He’s worked with a glider before (see the great pool-diving shot in this video), but a steadicam takes a lot of skill.  I think he nailed it.

I say this video was a lot of fun to make, but I’m not the one who made it, of course.  For me the fun part was hanging out with NCSY at their winter retreat in Connecticut, then spending New Year’s in Teaneck… see if you can catch cameos of me and the kids in this one.  🙂

The OU is such an awesome organization, and I wouldn’t have known how amazing it is if Shmuel hadn’t made this video.  I feel like I’m part of something phenomenal when I buy anything with an OU hechsher.  See for yourself in the video above.

The iPad theme was great. Were those effects created with plugins, or was it much more technical.

    • We did it all in After Effects. The greenscreen was done by my friend Eli Veffer, who I think did an outstanding job. You feel that the faces in the iPad were shot with a life camera.

Great work Shmuel – particularly the editing. This is how a promo should look & feel.

  3. Great video. Maybe in 2012 we will be able to afford to have you do a Freezee piece!

Beautiful job, Shmuel! Made me (an NCSY-er) proud – and it was good to see your family flourishing, even if in a just a few frames. Is that a new logo they have?
    Kol tuv,

  9. Nice work Shmuel.

Glad that you got my firetruck in there. 🙂

  10. Again, great stuff Shmuel. Love how you use the iPad/iPhone as a storytelling device throughout out the film. Nice concept. Also, it’s well shot, edited and scored.

What’s really nice is at you found an organic way to modernize and humanize the OU…while telling their story in a compelling and inspirational way.

  11. Hey Shawn,

thanks so much for your reply. Yes, I’m glad that it came accross like you said. The intention really was to give the OU more a modern look and feel. Totally right. Hey, thanks for following me here.

  12. Shmuel, great job! From reading all of the comments, it seems you are gaining more and more experience with your work. Nothing puts a bigger smile on our faces, then creating a video and getting great comments regarding it. Great job! Now I’m curious, how long did this production take to complete? Did you just use Premiere and After Effects? Once again, awesome job!

  13. Quite impressive. There’s so much to the OU, and even if not all was told, there’s a whole lot that was included here. Very effective. I rewound a number of times just to watch the effects and transitions. Still holding off on getting an IPad 2 though.
